Getting Around from Western Sydney Airport
WSI opens October 2026 with limited public transport. A hire car is the best option until the metro arrives in mid-to-late 2027 — the M12 Motorway (opened March 2026) connects the terminal directly to the M7 ring road.

The essential option at opening — no direct metro until 2027
Pick up at the terminal
WSI will have on-site car hire concessions from major brands — Avis, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty and Europcar all typically operate at new Australian airports. Exact operators TBC closer to opening.
M12 connects everything
The M12 Motorway opened March 2026, linking WSI directly to the M7 ring road. From there: M4 to Sydney CBD, M2 to the North Shore, or M7 south to Liverpool and Campbelltown. Note: M7 and M12 are tolled roads.
Drive on the left
Australia drives on the left. If you're arriving from NZ, UK, Japan or SE Asia you're used to this — but visitors from the US, Europe or China should budget extra adjustment time, especially on motorways.

Other Transport Options
Bus Services
Free interim bus to St Marys Station until metro opens. Five bus routes launching July 2026 connecting WSI to Penrith, Liverpool and Campbelltown interchanges.
Rideshare & Taxi
Uber, Ola and taxis will service WSI from day one. Expect $30–50 to Penrith, $50–80 to Parramatta, $80–120 to Sydney CBD. A designated rideshare pickup zone will be at the terminal.
Sydney Metro (2027)
The WSA metro connects to St Marys Station and the broader Sydney rail network. Expected mid-to-late 2027 — the Parklife Metro consortium dispute pushed the timeline back from the original 2026 target.

Toll Roads
The M12 and M7 are tolled. Most hire cars include an e-TAG — confirm with your rental company. Without one, you can register a visitor toll pass through Linkt before travel. Expect $5–15 in tolls for a typical Sydney CBD run.
Travel Insurance
International visitors: Australian healthcare is not free for most visa holders. Travel insurance with medical cover and car hire excess protection is worth considering before you arrive.
